Teach Us to Love

"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44
God's Kingdom is backwards. When the world tells us that enemies are to be hated, God tells us they must be loved and prayed for. How do we understand a request such as this? Well, it's coming from a God who is equivalent to LOVE. Love is who He is, it's what He breathes. To think that Jesus, a sinless, perfect, holy man, would sacrifice His life for us testifies to the ginormous love He has towards us, a people who turn our backs on Him everyday. Our purpose is to daily strive to reflect the character of God, which is LOVE. The more time we spent with the element of love, the more love we will have to give out to our enemies. Only God can supply us with a supernatural love for those who hurt us, betray us, and hate us.
John Carmody, former US Marine Captain and Silver Heart Recipient, explains it well: "An enemy is someone that God puts in our path that is most in need of our love; not retaliation or retribution or harm or insult."

Father, teaches us to love like you love.
